FAQ Information

FAQ

If is due for its service, do I have to send my Argus back to the factory for its check-up?
No, the Argus will be serviced at a designated service center near you

How can I check that my Argus is functioning correctly?
At each start up, the Argus will run a test sequence. If anything fails, the Argus will tell you what is wrong in clear language and shut down. If you still have any doubts, you can ask your rigger to test the Argus in his/her test chamber with a test probe.

How standard is the standard user-replaceable battery?
Literally: as standard as a photo shop in your neighbourhood. The Argus power-source is a standard high quality lithium battery, available worldwide. Its lifetime is 1 year, by design. The battery can be easily replaced by your rigger at a repack

Nice idea, what’s the battery-life?
By design, at least one year on a standard battery

If my Argus has fired, do I have to send it back?
No, the Argus is equipped with a field replaceable cutter. Your rigger can replace the cutter during repack. BTW if you are willing to fill in a life saving report the replacement cutter will be for free…

What is the life time expectancy of the Argus?
Based on aging tests performed, the service life for the Argus is more than 12 years counting from the first time it has been switched on.

Use
In what modes is the Argus available and what are the parameters?
The Argus Multimode has four functioning modes that can be selected by the user: Standard, Novice, Tandem and Swoop.. The selection is made while in the «MENU» mode (see § xxx). Each mode has its own factory settings. The user is always asked to confirm the selection of a mode.

Standard: 820ft (250 meters) at a fall rate of 78 mph (35 m/sec)
Novice: 984 feet (300 meters) at a fall rate of 45 mph (20m/sec)
Tandem: 2165 feet (660meter) at a fall rate of 78 mph (35 m/sec)
Swoop: 820ft (250 meters) at a fall rate of 78 mph (35 m/sec).

Has my rig to be modified?
No, the Argus is compatible with standard set-ups. It consists out of three main parts: the control unit, the display and the cutter. It can be directly installed without any modifications in most of the rigs available today

What is the size of the unit?
Main Unit (electronic unit and battery storage in reserve container): Length: 87mm/ 3.4 inch, Height: 21 mm/ 1.5 inch, Width: 38 mm/ 0.8 inch. Remote Control (display and control switch): Length: 64 mm/ 2.5 inch, Height: 8 mm/ 0.3 inch, Width: 20 mm/ 0.8 inch.

What is IP67 water resistance?
With IP (Ingress Protection) ratings the first numeral refers to the level of dust resistance and the second numeral refers to the level of water resistance. The range IP67 rating means that the device is totally protected from dust and can be submerged in water to 1 m (3ft) for up to 30 minutes without any leakage. The ratings were set by the International Electro technical Commission. More info on IP ratings you can find on: http://www.lamothe-approvals.com/Articles/ipratingsforequipment.htm and http://www.protectingpeople.co.uk/fire_tech/ip_explained.htm

If I should forget, does the Argus automatically shut down?
The Argus will automatically shut down 14 hours after it has been switched on.

If I want any extra modes installed, do I have to send the Argus back?
No, the extra modes are pre-installed, you can activate them yourself by using the mode installation procedure (follow the instructions from the manual).

You have a swoop mode; does that mean I cannot swoop with an Argus in Standard mode?
No, you probably can. However, you must be aware that the gap between the speed of modern canopies, skills and the parameters of Automatic Activation Devices is narrowing and in some cases already has been exceeded.

Is before installation any authorization required from harness manufacturers?
The Argus is compatible with all CypresTM - style" installations. Some countries do require the agreement of the rig manufacturers. For authorisations, see Download --> Certifications
